This issue explores the multi-faceted relationship between Art and the City. On the one hand, the city is in itself a physical artifact, a four-dimensional formal and spatial composition of parts whose conscious design can illicit numerous sensory moments. On the other, the city is a colossal canvas for personal artistic expression. From street art, graffiti, and political propaganda, to commercial signage, art installations and religious insignia, the identity of a city often stems less from buildings and more from such artistic elements. Urban artistic expression goes from the permanent to the temporal, from monumental architectural iconism, to trees changing their colours with the seasons. And this in turn often captures the attention of the artist's mind who 'claims' the city through paintings, sketches and doodles of urban life in all forms. The City is the product of an Art. The City inspires Art. And Art, in turn, instigates imaginations of the City - nostalgic and futuristic.
