This is the first issue of My Liveable City since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Daunting as this crisis may seem, we also see it as a unique opportunity to reassess our relationship with the natural and built environment. The damage our extant patterns of urbanisation have done is unimaginable. Weather patterns are changing. Oceans are becoming increasingly acidic. Millions of acres of forest are being lost annually. And more than a billion people across the world live in inadequate shelters. None of us would be proud of these facts, but we, as an interconnected global urban system must take responsibility for this. The ongoing pandemic is but a dress-rehearsal of the catastrophe of Climate Change that is lurking beyond. And while a vaccination may take care of this pandemic, there won’t be one for Climate Change. The theme of this issue, 'Sustainable Cities', is a conscious effort on our part to provoke rethinking on the impact of our cities on the future of our planet.
